An NBA trade idea sending Jonathan Kuminga from the Golden State Warriors to the Chicago Bulls has been created.

NBA writer Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints created the following trade idea between the Warriors and Bulls:

Chicago Bulls receive: F Jonathan Kuminga (4-year, $115 million contract with about $24 million Year 1 base compensation) & C Trayce Jackson-Davis

Golden State Warriors receive: G Ayo Dosunmu, F/C Jalen Smith, CHI 2029 1st-round pick (Lottery-protected, becomes two 2nd-round picks in ’29, ’30 if not conveyed), CHI 2028 2nnd-round pick

Kuminga is a restricted free agent. He doesn’t want to return to the Warriors, who have offered him a two-year, $40 million deal.

This NBA trade idea gives Kuminga the fresh start and money he’s looking for. It’s a sign-and-trade deal between the Warriors and Bulls.

Kuminga wants to be an All-Star. He probably can’t accomplish that goal in Golden State since Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler are there, which is why he wants to leave the Warriors.

The Bulls don’t have a bona fide No. 1 scoring option. Kuminga could become that guy in Chicago.

The 22-year-old Kuminga appeared in 47 games for the Warriors last season. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 66.8% from the free-throw line.

The Warriors beat the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in seven games but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals in five games. Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the 2025 postseason.

Meanwhile, the Bulls missed the playoffs last season. They haven’t made the postseason since 2022.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr benched Kuminga for the final game of the regular season against the Los Angeles Clippers and the play-in game versus the Memphis Grizzlies. Kuminga only played in Games 2 and 3 of the Rockets series because Butler was injured.

The seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Kuminga played in every game of the Timberwolves series only because Curry got injured in Game 1 and missed the rest of the series.

Kuminga has career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists. It will be fascinating to see where he’s playing next season.
