A blockbuster NBA trade proposal sending Victor Wembanyama to the Denver Nuggets and Nikola Jokić to the San Antonio Spurs has been created.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade proposal:

Denver Nuggets get: Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell and Kelly Olynyk

San Antonio Spurs get: Nikola Jokić

We saw the Dallas Mavericks trade Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, so anything is possible in today’s NBA.

Jokić is making $55.2 million this season, while Wembanyama is making $13.4 million. Neither superstar has a no-trade clause.

“The only reason the trade is unbalanced in this form is because San Antonio would have to send out more salary to make the deal legal under the current trade rules,” Bailey wrote. “But even with that imbalance, a Spurs team with Jokić, Stephon Castle, De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper would be an obvious title contender for the foreseeable future.

“The Nuggets with Wemby, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon and Cameron Johnson would be too. They wouldn’t be quite the same offensive juggernaut they are now, but the defense would almost certainly be better. And the long-term prospects would probably be better too.”

Jokić just returned from a knee injury. The three-time MVP is averaging 29.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game this season while shooting 60.9% from the field, 44.0% from beyond the arc and 84.6% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, Wembanyama is averaging 24.1 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 blocks per game while shooting 50.4% from the field, 35.5% from beyond the arc and 82.7% from the free-throw line.

Jokić guided the Nuggets to the 2023 NBA championship against the Miami Heat. He won the Finals MVP Award and will be a Hall of Famer one day.

As for Wembanyama, he’s still carving out his NBA career. He’s on pace to make the playoffs this year for the first time with the Spurs.

Will this NBA trade proposal ever happen? Probably not. But again, we never thought the Mavericks would trade Dončić, so never say never.
