The Orlando Magic are the betting favorite to trade for NBA star Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.

Young is in trade rumors because the Hawks haven’t offered him an extension.

Young is eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million extension with the Hawks. The talented scorer and passer will make $45.9 million next season. He can become an unrestricted free agent next offseason by declining his 2026-27 player option with the Hawks worth $48.9 million.

The Magic already made one big trade this offseason, acquiring Desmond Bane from the Memphis Grizzlies. It will be intriguing to see if they attempt to trade for Young.

A four-time All-Star, Young averaged 24.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 11.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.2 blocks for the Hawks last season in 76 games. He shot 41.1% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc and 87.5% from the free-throw line and led the NBA in assists and assists per game.

Atlanta missed the 2025 postseason despite Young’s terrific season. The franchise made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. The Hawks haven’t won a playoff series since then.

The Magic lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. They could be a star floor general away, like Young, from competing for a championship since they already have a competent core of Bane, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Young has career averages of 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.2 blocks with the Hawks. The Texas native doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. Only Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard have one.

Young’s best game in the NBA took place on January 3, 2022, against the Trail Blazers. He put up 56 points and 14 assists in 37 minutes.
