‘Just Trying to Be a Sponge’: Paige Bueckers Embraces WNBA All-Star Experience

Paige Bueckers is headed to Indianapolis for her first WNBA All-Star appearance, and while the Dallas Wings fell just short of a comeback against the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday night, the rookie guard left the floor with pride in how her team battled — and excitement about what lies ahead.

“This whole season has been such a blessing,” Bueckers said postgame. “I’m just trying to be a sponge and soak everything in.”

Bueckers will be the Wings’ lone All-Star representative at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday night. The moment carries added meaning for a first-year player who has rapidly evolved into one of Dallas’ most consistent playmakers. She finished with 20 points, eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals in the 90–86 loss to Las Vegas — including 10 points in the fourth quarter and a clutch jumper that brought the Wings within two in the final minute.

“It’s a huge honor to represent the Wings,” Bueckers said. “The fans, the city — they’ve embraced me and my teammates since Day 1. I’m just grateful.”

Bueckers has averaged 18.3 points and 5.4 assists this season while shooting 43.9% from the floor and leading all rookies in scoring. But her value extends beyond the box score. She’s been vocal on the court, embraced film study, and often leads huddles and regrouping moments during games.

“I want to keep growing as a leader,” Bueckers said. “It’s not just about playing well. It’s about helping this team build something.”

As she prepares for the biggest stage of her young pro career, Bueckers is keeping perspective — one eye on the moment, and one on the mission.

“I want to enjoy All-Star, but I also want to come back better,” Bueckers said. “The break is a great time to reset and refocus for what we want to accomplish after.”

The Wings will return from the All-Star break with a road matchup against the Seattle Storm on July 22.
