“I Know That It’s A Business”: Quentin Grimes Speaks For First Time Since Signing Qualifying Offer With Philadelphia 76ers

Quentin Grimes spoke to reporters on Wednesday for the first time since signing a one-year, $8.7 million qualifying offer to return to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Grimes, who will become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, remained professional while speaking to reporters, but sources told DallasHoopsJournal that the guard was frustrated with the Sixers during his restricted free agency.
“It was the process. It was knowing that I couldn’t control it,” Grimes said. “But it’s in the past and I know that it’s a business. I’m here to play for the city of Philly and play for my team.”
Grimes played for the Dallas Mavericks and Sixers last season. He averaged 14.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks in 75 games while shooting 46.7% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 75.7% from the free-throw line.
The Sixers acquired Grimes from the Mavericks on February 4. Grimes appeared in 28 games with Philadelphia, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.4 blocks while shooting 46.9% overall, 37.3% from 3 and 75.2% from the foul line.
A Houston native, Grimes has played for the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Mavericks and Sixers. He enters this season with career averages of 10.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks.
“It’s been a great first practice,” Quentin Grimes said. “I’m happy to get that out of the way. I’m ready to compete with my teammates and I’m happy to be here. … Hopefully, I’ll be able to be back here longer. I wanted to be back here on a longer-term deal, but I’m happy to be here right now and do everything I can to help this team win.”
The Sixers missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 2017. All-Stars Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey only played in 15 games together due to injuries.
