“She’s Not Good Enough to Talk Like That:” WNBA Exec Rips Chicago Sky Star Angel Reese

A WNBA exec ripped Chicago Sky star Angel Reese during a conversation with DallasHoopsJournal after Reese’s comments to the Chicago Tribune went viral.
“She’s not good enough to talk like that yet,” the WNBA exec said. “You can’t throw your teammates under the bus while you’re barely shooting over 40% and can’t hit a jumper to save your life. This is a really bad look for her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s traded this offseason.”
Here is what Reese said to the Chicago Tribune:
“I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me. I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.
“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want. I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”
Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She has career averages of 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks with the Sky.
Chicago is only 21-43 when Reese plays.
Sky players are “unhappy” with Reese, according to Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports. Reese’s interview with the Chicago Tribune was read by players and coaches.
“Multiple league sources told FOS the entire team has seen Reese’s comments and that teammates are unhappy with the direct attacks,” Costabile wrote. “A team meeting is planned at which players are expected to address Reese directly.”
The Sky will miss the playoffs again this year. They are one of the worst teams in the WNBA.
Reese is averaging 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds this season while shooting 45.8% from the field, 18.2% from beyond the arc and 75.6% from the free-throw line.
The 23-year-old Reese is four games away from finishing the second season of her rookie contract, a three-year agreement with a team option that all but guarantees to keep her in Chicago through 2027 unless she is traded.
“There is a belief among some sources that Reese’s future in Chicago may not be reparable,” Costabile wrote.
