Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will recruit NBA legend LeBron James to the Golden State Warriors this offseason, according to Lakers Daily.
James becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The future Hall of Famer has been with the Los Angeles Lakers since 2018.
Curry and Green are close friends with James, who has publicly said he would love to play with the Warriors legends.
James and Curry were teammates in the summer of 2024 at the Paris Olympics for Team USA. The NBA greats helped Team USA, coached by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, win the gold medal.
Green and James have the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group. The Warriors, who have won four championships in the Curry-Green era, attempted to acquire James from the Lakers during the 2023-24 season.
The prevailing thought in NBA circles is that if James doesn’t retire this offseason, he will either re-sign with the Lakers or return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. James has played for his hometown Cavaliers twice. He’s the best player in franchise history and will get his No. 23 jersey retired by the organization one day.
During James’ second stint with the Cavaliers from 2014-15 to 2017-18, Cleveland and Golden State met in four consecutive NBA Finals. The Warriors went 3-1 against the Cavaliers, but James’ group made history in the 2016 NBA Finals, becoming the first team ever to win the championship after trailing 3-1.
James turns 42 in December. He’s the oldest active player in the NBA. The Akron native has been in the league since 2003. He’s a four-time MVP, four-time champion and four-time Finals MVP.
Curry will make $62.6 million next season in the final year of his contract, while Green has a player option worth $27.7 million for next season.
The Warriors, should they strike out with James, will pursue other forwards since Jimmy Butler could miss all of next season after tearing his ACL.
