Victor Wembanyama Headlines Lengthy Spurs Injury Report Before Facing Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks face the injury-depleted San Antonio Spurs, with Luka Dončić probable and Victor Wembanyama questionable for Saturday’s matchup.

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks will face a depleted San Antonio Spurs squad on Saturday night, looking to take advantage of their opponent’s mounting injuries on the second night of a back-to-back. Both teams have notable injuries, but regardless of who plays, the Mavs need to generate momentum amid a four-game slide.

The Spurs’ injury report includes Tre Jones as probable with a right ankle sprain, while superstar Victor Wembanyama is questionable due to a right knee contusion.

The content below was originally paywalled.

Wembanyama, who has been instrumental for the Spurs, tallied 28 points and 14 rebounds in their last game against the Los Angeles Lakers. His status remains uncertain, creating a potential void in San Antonio’s frontcourt. It would be a significant blow to San Antonio’s frontcourt if he’s unable to play.

The Spurs will also be without Jeremy Sochan (left thumb surgery), Devin Vassell (right foot injury management), and two-way contract players David Duke Jr., Harrison Ingram, and Riley Minix.

San Antonio has relied on rookie guard Stephon Castle to step up amid these injuries. Over his last five games, Castle has averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 assists, and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 50.0% from the field and 40.9% from 3-point range. The rookie has shown composure and efficiency, but the Spurs face a tall task in overcoming their shorthanded lineup.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks have their injury concerns. Luka Dončić is listed as probable with a right knee contusion, while P.J. Washington (right knee sprain) and Naji Marshall (illness) are questionable. Dallas will remain without Danté Exum (right wrist surgery) and Jazian Gortman (G League).

Washington, trending toward a return, could boost Dallas’ rotation if cleared to play. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd has indicated that Washington would likely start once he returns, adding much-needed versatility and depth to the frontcourt.

Both teams are coming off losses, with the Mavericks dropping their most recent game against the Utah Jazz and the Spurs falling to the Lakers in NBA Cup play. Dallas has struggled to find consistency but will look to take advantage of San Antonio’s injury-depleted roster in this Southwest Division matchup.
