Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is dealing with “persistent swelling and pain” in his right knee, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.

Curry, who turns 38 in March, hasn’t played since January 30 against the Detroit Pistons.

“I’m told an MRI in the last 24 hours on Stephen Curry showed no structural issue in his right knee,” Charania said. “But he is dealing with persistent swelling and pain in that knee. The team is describing it as runner’s knee as the injury.

“So Stephen Curry works out individually as he did over the All-Star break, and afterward, he deals with pain and swelling. And so both the Warriors and Curry need all of that to subside before he can try to start to play again and it’s uncertain whether that will be days or weeks more away for Stephen Curry.”

Curry has appeared in 39 games this season. He’s averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 46.8% from the field, 39.1% from beyond the arc and 93.1% from the free-throw line.

The Warriors are in eighth place in the Western Conference standings. If the regular season ended today, Golden State would be in the NBA play-in tournament.

The Dubs won the 2022 championship against the Boston Celtics. They haven’t advanced past the second round of the playoffs since Curry’s fourth NBA championship.

Golden State traded Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis at this year’s NBA trade deadline. Jimmy Butler will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL.

Curry has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors. He’s a two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP.
