WATCH: Dirk Nowitzki and Klay Thompson Team Up for Charity at Dirk's Tennis Classic

Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki and his newest teammate, Klay Thompson, recently teamed up for a good cause at the sixth annual Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Tennis Classic. The event, held at T Bar M in Dallas, brought together athletes and celebrities for a fun day of tennis and charity, raising funds for children’s health, education, and well-being.

The Tennis Classic featured not only current and former Mavericks players like Steve Nash and J.J. Barea but also professional tennis players like Mark Knowles and CoCo Vandeweghe, alongside personalities like Dr. Phil. The atmosphere was lighthearted, with plenty of playful trash-talking and mic’d-up moments to entertain the crowd.

Thompson, who recently joined the Mavericks after a high-profile sign-and-trade in July, embraced the opportunity to get involved with the local community through this event. “I grew up watching Dirk and Steve [Nash], so I have great respect for those guys. I just wanted to get a feel for the city, and it’s fun to be out here,” Thompson shared before the match. While joking about needing extra time to warm up for the event, Thompson proved to be a good sport, diving into the tennis fun despite admitting it’s not his usual game.

Dirk Nowitzki also enjoyed hosting the event after a two-year hiatus, expressing his gratitude to sponsors and participants for making it happen. “It’s a little more pressure since it’s not really my sport, but it’ll be fun. I have to thank everybody,” he said. The event, with its single show court format, allowed spectators to follow the action more closely and soak up the friendly banter between the players.

The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Tennis Classic was more than just a game; it was an opportunity for Mavericks stars, both past and present, to come together and give back to the Dallas community.
