The Washington Wizards are not interested in trading Anthony Davis, according to Marc J. Spears of ESPN.
Davis, acquired by the Wizards from the Dallas Mavericks at the 2026 trade deadline in February, didn’t play for Washington this past season because of ligament damage in his left hand. The future Hall of Famer will make $58.5 million next season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
Davis appeared in 20 games with the Mavericks this past season. He averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 50.6% from the field and 72.8% from the free-throw line. The 33-year-old was the first pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.
Rumors were going around the league that the Golden State Warriors were interested in trading for Davis to lure LeBron James, who will not return to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, it appears the Wizards plan to keep Davis.
A top-75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks. He’s a 10-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion with career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. The Chicago native has made five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams.
The Wizards signed Trae Young to a new contract and drafted AJ Dybantsa with the first pick in the 2026 draft this offseason. Young, Davis, Dybantsa, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Bilal Coulibaly and Bub Carrington are the core in Washington.
It will be fascinating to see if the Wizards sign Davis to an extension this offseason. Davis just saw Washington give Young a new $212 million contract, so he will want to get paid as well. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent. Washington’s brass and Paul have already met this offseason to talk about Davis’ future with the club.
The Wizards haven’t made the playoffs since 2021. It will be intriguing to see how Washington performs next season.
