Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson both understand that there’s a high chance the Dallas Mavericks trade them, sources told DallasHoopsJournal.

The Mavericks are widely expected to trade Davis and Thompson after firing general manager Nico Harrison.

Davis is making $54.1 million this season, while Thompson is making $16.7 million. Neither player has a no-trade clause.

A Chicago native, Davis has appeared in only 14 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.

Davis has played in just five games this season. He’s currently dealing with a left calf strain and it’s unknown when the 10-time All-Star will suit up again.

A top 75 player of all time, Davis is averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this season while shooting 52.0% from the field, 27.3% from beyond the arc and 74.2% from the free-throw line. He turns 33 in March.

Davis reported to training camp at 268 pounds, according to the roster the Mavericks released in September. That was 15 pounds heavier than what he was listed at the previous season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Thompson, who turns 36 in February, is averaging a career-low 9.4 points per game this season. The five-time All-Star is shooting 33.8% from the field and 31.1% from 3. He started the first seven games of the season before getting benched by head coach Jason Kidd.

The Mavericks are only 4-11. They are in 13th place in the Western Conference standings.

The new decision makers in Dallas, Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi, believe the best route to take moving forward is to trade Davis, Thompson and a few other veterans and rebuild around Cooper Flagg, who is averaging 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game on the season.
