DHJ Quick Take
- Potential Offseason Trade: NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that Anthony Davis may be traded this offseason before even making his on-court debut for Washington, as the team weighs his future following his mid-season acquisition from Dallas.
- Worst Record in the NBA: The Wizards finished the 2025-26 season with a league-worst 17-65 record, fueling speculation that the franchise may pivot toward a younger rebuilding core rather than keeping veteran stars.
- Contender vs. Rebuild: At 33 years old, Davis is viewed as a player better suited for a championship contender, making him a prime trade candidate for teams looking to win immediately.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Washington Wizards could trade Anthony Davis this offseason.
The Wizards won only 17 games this season and had the worst record in the NBA.
Davis is 33 years old and better suited to play for a contender at this stage of his career.
Davis, acquired by Washington from the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline, didn’t play for the Wizards this season because of ligament damage in his left hand. The future Hall of Famer will make $58.5 million next season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
A top-75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He’s a 10-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion with career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. The Chicago native has made five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams.
Davis appeared in just 29 games with the Mavericks, who traded Luka Dončić to the Lakers to acquire the Kentucky product. Davis averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest with Dallas.
The Wizards acquired Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks before trading for Davis. It will be intriguing to see if Davis remains on Washington’s roster or gets traded or bought out this offseason.
If Davis stays with the Wizards, their core will be Davis, Young, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bilal Coulibaly, Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington.
Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent. Davis and Paul will speak to the Wizards’ brass about the organization’s plan moving forward this offseason, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal.
