Max Christie, Cooper Flagg Ruled Out As Dallas Mavericks Finalize Injury Report vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

The Dallas Mavericks finalized their injury report ahead of Friday’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, confirming multiple status changes before tipoff at Target Center.

Daniel Gafford (right ankle injury management) is available, along with Miles Kelly (G League/Two-Way) and Caleb Martin (left ankle sprain), who returns after missing the final game before the All-Star break due to the same ankle issue.

Max Christie (left ankle sprain) has been ruled out after initially being listed as questionable following Thursday’s practice injury. Moussa Cissé (G League/Two-Way) and Ryan Nembhard (G League/Two-Way) are also out. Cooper Flagg (left midfoot sprain) remains out as he continues recovering from the injury suffered before the All-Star break. Kyrie Irving (left knee surgery) and Dereck Lively II (right foot surgery) remain out for the season.

Dallas enters the contest at 19-35 overall and 5-19 on the road, attempting to halt a nine-game losing streak.

Dallas Mavericks Must Adapt Without Max Christie

Christie’s absence removes one of Dallas’ most efficient perimeter shooters. He is averaging 13.3 points per game while shooting 46.7% from the field and 42.6% from three-point range. Without him, the Mavericks lose a reliable floor spacer and secondary ball-handler.

Klay Thompson and Khris Middleton are positioned to absorb additional minutes on the wing. Thompson is averaging 11.6 points per game and nearly three made three-pointers per contest, while Middleton offers half-court creation and veteran stability.

Cooper Flagg Continues Recovery as Jason Kidd Emphasizes “Next Man Up”

Flagg will miss another game as he works back from his left midfoot sprain. Through 49 games, the rookie is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 34.1 minutes per game while shooting 48.2% from the field. His 999 total points lead the team.

Head coach Jason Kidd has described Flagg as “day-to-day,” but he will not suit up against Minnesota. With the rookie sidelined again, Kidd framed the approach clearly.

“Next man up. That’s the best answer,” Kidd said of playing without Flagg. “There’s a lot of injuries. We’ve seen this before. Cooper’s been out (before) unfortunately & will be out. There’s another opportunity for someone in that Mavs uniform to step up until Cooper gets back.”

Without Flagg, the offensive burden shifts more heavily to Naji Marshall and P.J. Washington, while Brandon Williams continues handling significant on-ball responsibilities.

Frontcourt Stability for Dallas Mavericks With Daniel Gafford Active

The availability of Gafford provides important interior stability. He is averaging 8.0 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 63.2% from the field. Had he been unavailable, Marvin Bagley III and Dwight Powell would have been the only healthy big men on standard contracts.

Martin’s return strengthens wing depth, while Kelly’s availability adds backcourt flexibility.

Long-Term Dallas Mavericks Absences Remain

Irving confirmed during the All-Star break that he will not return this season as he continues rehabilitation from ACL reconstruction surgery.

“This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right one,” Irving said. “I am grateful for the Mavericks organization, my teammates, and our fans for their continued support throughout the process. I am looking forward to coming back stronger next season. The belief and drive I have inside only grows.

“And I wanted to send a huge shoutout to ALL of my brothers and sisters out there who’ve torn their ACL or gotten injured doing what they love to do every day. THANK YOU for the inspiration. No fear!”

Lively II remains sidelined following right foot surgery.

Rotation Outlook vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

With Christie and Flagg unavailable, Dallas will lean heavily on P.J. Washington and Naji Marshall offensively, while Thompson and Middleton absorb expanded wing responsibilities.

Minnesota enters at 34-22 and ranks in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive rating. For Dallas, the updated injury report clarifies the rotation picture — but the challenge remains significant as the Mavericks attempt to halt their skid on the road.
