The Dallas Mavericks have officially narrowed their search for a new home arena to two locations within the city of Dallas. With that, the franchise has taken a major step in a process that will shape its future beyond the next decade.
According to a Dallas Morning News report, the Mavericks are finalising two potential sites for the arena. They are evaluating a downtown Dallas location and the former Valley View Center property.
Team CEO Rick Welts confirmed the update, noting that while an earlier target date was set for March, a final decision is now more likely around July 1, near the conclusion of the NBA season.

Downtown Dallas Site Under Evaluation
One downtown option under consideration is the land currently occupied by Dallas City Hall. However, that possibility hinges on whether the city ultimately decides to preserve or demolish the building, a discussion that is still ongoing at the municipal level.
Welts emphasized that the organization hopes one of the two locations could lead “to success,” but acknowledged that several factors remain outside the team’s control.
Valley View Center Site Also in Consideration
The second option, however, the Valley View Center site at Preston Road and Interstate 635, offers a vastly different vision. The 110-acre property provides enough space for the kind of mixed-use entertainment district the Mavericks are targeting, including an arena, public gathering spaces, and surrounding commercial development.
From a planning standpoint, it represents a cleaner slate compared to the complexities of a downtown build.
Timing is becoming increasingly important for the whole futuristic plan. The Mavericks’ lease at the American Airlines Center expires in 2031, and Welts has stressed that despite how distant that date may sound, the window for planning, approvals, and construction is already tight. The franchise still intends for the new arena to open that year.
