The Dallas Wings will be without DiJonai Carrington, Arike Ogunbowale, Tyasha Harris, and Maddy Siegrist on Monday night when they face the Phoenix Mercury for the second time in five days. Dallas took the first matchup using a 98-89 victory. Tipoff at PHX Arena is set for 9 p.m. CT.
Harris (left knee) is out for the season, but there is no firm timetable for the return of Carrington (rib), Ogunbowale (left thumb), or Siegrist (right knee). All three were present at Saturday’s practice in Dallas, continuing their respective rehab processes. However, none participated in any capacity with the team.
A source tells DallasHoopsJournal.com that Carrington and Ogunbowale did not travel with the team to Phoenix, potentially ruling them out for Monday’s game and Wednesday’s road matchup against the Chicago Sky. The Wings will return home following the Chicago stop before traveling again for next Sunday’s game at Indiana.
Siegrist did make the trip and has shown encouraging signs of progress. During shootaround ahead of Dallas’ June 27 game against the Indiana Fever, she was limited to chair-based shooting and dribbling. She has advanced to walking and doing limited on-court work, but remains without a clear timeline.
Carrington, averaging 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across 14 appearances, suffered her rib injury late in Dallas’ 86-83 win over the Connecticut Sun on June 20 while taking a charge. There is no new information regarding specifics on Carrington’s injury.
“It was in that Connecticut game, late in that game,” head coach Chris Koclanes said recently. “We turned it over, and then she stepped in to draw a charge—took a big hit right to the chest. But she’s improving daily.”
Ogunbowale, averaging 16.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 18 games played, injured her thumb during the Wings’ 79-71 win over the Washington Mystics on June 28 and has not played since. Like Carrington, there is no new information yet about Ogunbwaole’s injury.
“Unique, just being extremely cautious and trusting our medical team,” Koclanes said of the team’s approach to the ongoing injuries.
In their absence, Dallas (6-13) continues to rely on its rookie core. Four first-year players — Paige Bueckers, Aziaha James, JJ Quinerly, and Luisa Geiselsöder — started in Thursday’s 98-89 win over Phoenix, joined by center Li Yueru. It marked the Wings’ fifth win in their last seven games.
James scored a career-high 28 points with five three-pointers, while Quinerly added 17 points and seven assists. Bueckers finished with 23 points and five assists.
“We came out and punched first,” Quinerly said. “We got up the floor quick, got into transition and got some quick shots up. That gave us confidence, and we just kept building.”
Dallas will face the Sky on Wednesday at Wintrust Arena before briefly returning home and then heading to Indiana for a rematch of the June 27 loss at the American Airlines Center, which the Fever won 94-88.
