The Dallas Wings have waived veteran guard Karlie Samuelson following her acquisition from the Minnesota Lynx, the team announced Monday. Samuelson underwent surgery on her left foot in July and will remain out for the rest of the 2025 WNBA season.

Despite the waiver, the Wings will oversee Samuelson’s rehabilitation and recovery process as she prepares for unrestricted free agency this offseason. The team plans to provide medical and training support during her rehab timeline.

As part of the trade that sent DiJonai Carrington to Minnesota, the Wings also acquired third-year forward Diamond Miller.

Miller will be active for Tuesday’s game against the New York Liberty, providing Dallas with a much-needed boost in size and versatility on the wing. The 6-foot-3 forward was shooting 53.8 percent from three-point range this season before the trade and is expected to play a key role in Dallas’ revamped rotation.

With Samuelson’s departure, the Wings now have an open roster spot and are expected to make a hardship signing ahead of Tuesday’s matchup. As Dallas continues to navigate multiple injuries, an additional signing is anticipated ahead of their matchup against the Liberty.

The Wings have shown a tendency to bring back players they recently had on hardship contracts. With Haley Jones on an end-of-season contract, Grace Berger would be a logical candidate.

Samuelson appeared in 16 games this season with the Lynx prior to her injury. Over 121 career WNBA games, the Stanford alum has averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 39.2 percent from three-point range.
