Derrick White Was Never ‘Worried’ About Getting Traded by Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics made two big trades this NBA offseason, sending Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers and Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. There were rumors that Boston could also trade Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, but both players are still on the Celtics.
During a recent interview with Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston, White said he was never “worried” about getting traded from Boston.
“I think every summer is pretty crazy, especially nowadays,” Derrick White said. “But I didn’t feel too worried about anything. My agent and Brad (Stevens) had been talking and all the other rumors and stuff, I wasn’t really too worried about.
“I mean, I feel like it’s cool to be wanted by other teams, but I wanted to stay in Boston, and I was glad they wanted to keep me.”
One of the top two-way players in the NBA, White will make $28.1 million next season. He averaged 16.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.1 blocks last season for the Celtics while shooting 44.2% from the field, 38.4% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the foul line.
Boston won the 2024 championship against the Dallas Mavericks but lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2025 playoffs. Jayson Tatum tore his left Achilles tendon in Game 4 against the Knicks. The All-Star small forward is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 season.
The 31-year-old White has played for the San Antonio Spurs and Celtics. He has career averages of 13.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.9 blocks.
Boston acquired White from San Antonio in February 2022. White is averaging 14.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.0 blocks with the Celtics.
