Golden State Warriors’ Interest in Chicago Bulls’ Josh Giddey ‘Is Genuine’

The Golden State Warriors’ interest in Chicago Bulls point-forward Josh Giddey “is genuine,” according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
However, the odds of the Warriors landing Giddey are low since the Bulls are not interested in a sign-and-trade deal involving the restricted free agent.
Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga is a restricted free agent as well.
“But Golden State’s interest in Josh Giddey is genuine,” Fischer wrote. “The Warriors were prepared to select Giddey with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft, sources say, only for Oklahoma City to chose Giddey and steer the Warriors toward selecting Jonathan Kuminga at No. 7 overall. It’s believed that both the Thunder and the Warriors had Giddey and Kuminga projected as the players to go sixth and seventh in some order entering that draft.
“I’m told that the Warriors continue to value Giddey’s skillset and have communicated their interest to the Australian point guard’s representation. There simply does not appear to be a feasible pathway to such a trade … not right now. The base-year compensation issue alone makes it challenging before we even get to the limited salary-matching and outgoing player flexibility that Golden State is currently facing.”
Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks last season for the Bulls, shooting 46.5% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 78.1% from the free-throw line. He recorded 30 double-doubles and seven triple-doubles.
Chicago acquired Giddey from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Alex Caruso trade. Caruso helped the Thunder win the 2025 championship against the Indiana Pacers in seven games, while Giddey and the Bulls missed the 2025 playoffs.
The Warriors made the playoffs last season. They beat the Houston Rockets in the first round but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round.
Giddey turns 23 in October. He has career averages of 14.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Thunder and Bulls.
The Bulls made an offer of $80 million over four years to Giddey when the offseason commenced on June 30. Giddey is seeking an annual salary in the $30 million range.
