The Golden State Warriors checked in on Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard and Jaren Jackson Jr. at the 2026 NBA trade deadline, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.
Leonard remained with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Milwaukee Bucks didn’t trade Antetokounmpo and the Memphis Grizzlies traded Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz.
Meanwhile, the Warriors traded Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porziņģis, who is dealing with a mysterious illness.
The Warriors are expected to pursue Antetokounmpo again this offseason. For now, they are in a wait-and-see mode with Porziņģis.
“When a guy is hurt or sick or whatever, there’s no one around here like pressuring you, like, ‘Yo, what’s going on?’ We don’t move like that,” Draymond Green said. “So I don’t think in this locker room, we feel the uncertainty as much as everyone else does, because that’s just not how we operate. We know if he’s healthy, he’s going to get back out there.
“We don’t sit around pressuring guys to make them feel this angst that they got to get back. No, you’ll get back when you can get back.”
Porziņģis has played in just one game with the Warriors. It’s unknown when the 2024 NBA champion will be cleared to play again.
“It’s a little mysterious,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said of Porzingis’ illness. “We’re obviously working with him and hoping that he can get some clarity. And he can kind of break through and get to a point where he’s consistently healthy, but that’s something that the medical staff is working hard on with him. I’m not going to even posit any medical theories anymore.”
Porziņģis becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He put up 12 points in his Warriors debut on February 19.
The Warriors are in eighth place in the Western Conference standings. NBA legend Stephen Curry is dealing with runner’s knee in his right knee and hasn’t played since January 30.
Golden State won the 2022 championship against the Boston Celtics. The franchise hasn’t advanced past the second round of the playoffs since then.
Jimmy Butler will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL. All signs point toward the Warriors’ season ending early again.
