Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James Opens Up About Becoming NBA’s All-Time Leader In Field Goals: ‘It’s Pretty Cool’

In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 120-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time leader in field goals.

James, who is the NBA’s all-time leader in points, passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most made field goals in NBA history. Abdul-Jabbar is now second in points and made field goals.

“Just to be able to link my name to being mentioned with some of the greatest to ever play this game has always been humbling and a pretty cool thing,” LeBron James said after the game. “I grew up watching, reading [about], idolizing a lot of the greats, and if I ever was able to be part of the NBA, I wanted to put myself in position that I can be named with some of the greats by doing something right. So it’s pretty cool.”

James is arguably the greatest player in NBA history. Along with being the all-time leader in points and field goals, James is also a four-time MVP, four-time champion and four-time Finals MVP.

“Obviously it’s a pretty cool feat, but it’s hard for me to kind of wrap my head around it or what it looks like,” LeBron James said. “It’s something that I never had a goal to have that record. I came into this league understanding that I had to start from scratch. As the No. 1 player in the country, I had to start from scratch and get myself up that plateau of being the No. 1 player in the world again. So that was my only mindset.

“I don’t know how many players have played in the NBA, but it’s the greatest players in the world. And for my name to be mentioned with the greats and be at the top of it is awesome.”

James has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers. He’s a 22-time All-Star with career averages of 26.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. The Akron native has made 21 All-NBA teams, which is a record.

A future Hall of Famer, James becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason for the first time since 2018. It’s unknown whether the NBA legend will retire or continue playing.
