The Golden State Warriors will explore trading Jonathan Kuminga to the Miami Heat for Andrew Wiggins, according to NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Kuminga has demanded a trade from the Warriors, who are interested in reuniting with Wiggins, the Kansas product who helped Golden State win the 2022 championship against the Boston Celtics.

Golden State traded Wiggins to Miami last season in the blockbuster Jimmy Butler trade. Butler will miss the rest of this season after tearing his ACL, so the Warriors are looking for a forward.

“League sources tell The Stein Line that one avenue which will certainly be explored is the prospect of a Kuminga-for-Andrew Wiggins swap with Miami that potentially brings Wiggins back to the Bay Area after he was shipped to South Beach last February for Butler,” Stein wrote.

Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal with the Warriors to end his restricted free agency last offseason. The second year of the deal, which is a team option, is designed for Kuminga’s next team to rip up and construct a new contract this offseason.

Kuminga believes Steve Kerr and the Warriors have stunted his growth, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Kerr and Kuminga don’t have a good relationship whatsoever and Golden State is expected to trade Kuminga before the 2026 NBA trade deadline, which is February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.

Kuminga is making $22.5 million this season, while Wiggins is making $28.2 million. The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks are also interested in trading for Wiggins, sources said.

The Warriors are in eighth place in the Western Conference standings, while the Heat are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Both teams would be in the NBA play-in tournament if the regular season ended today.
