Houston Rockets’ Kevin Durant ‘Used To Care About Being Honored And Revered By People’

During an interview with NBA reporter Marc J. Spears of Andscape, Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant admitted that he “used to care about being honored and revered by people.”
Durant, 37, no longer cares about that.
“I used to care about being honored and revered by people,” Durant said. “That don’t matter. People are fickle. The perception of you goes up and down depending on what people feel. I’m not expecting anybody to do anything for me, regardless. I just got to put in work and see what happens.”
Durant was traded by the Phoenix Suns to the Rockets this offseason. The NBA legend, who has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, Suns and Rockets, wants to retire with Houston.
“This is the last place I want to play. I just try to focus on the day ahead, not think too far down the line and see what happens,” Durant said.
A future Hall of Famer, Durant signed a two-year, $90 million extension with the Rockets, who lost to the Thunder on opening night. OKC won the championship last season against the Indiana Pacers in seven games.
“I mean, I don’t even look at a title. It’s Game 1, bro. I just want to solidify our offense and defense even more,” Durant said. “We will know more about our team as the season progresses. But I’m not looking at championships or playoffs. It’s about Game 2, how we can be better.”
Durant and the Rockets are back in action on Friday. They host the Detroit Pistons.
One of the greatest scorers in NBA history, Durant won back-to-back championships and Finals MVPs with the Warriors in 2017 and 2018. He’s won just two playoff series (2021, 2023) since leaving Golden State for Brooklyn in 2019.
