The Dallas Wings will wrap up their three-game homestand Wednesday night at College Park Center when they host the Connecticut Sun. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT, and the game will air locally on KFAA29 in Dallas-Fort Worth and stream out-of-market on WNBA League Pass.

The Wings (9–29) are coming off a 90–81 loss to the Golden State Valkyries, where Maddy Siegrist scored 16 points to lead the team in scoring for the fourth time in six games. Amy Okonkwo, just two games into her WNBA career, added 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The Sun (9–28) fell 86–77 to the New York Liberty on Monday despite 18 points and 15 rebounds from Aneesah Morrow. Connecticut has dropped two straight but recently surged, winning four of five before the back-to-back setbacks.

Dallas has already beaten the Sun twice this season, 109–87 on May 27 and 86–83 on June 20 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Amy Okonkwo Provides Spark

Okonkwo has averaged 10.0 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 61% from the floor since signing a hardship deal on Aug. 21. She is the first undrafted player since 2000 to open her WNBA career with back-to-back double-digit scoring averages on 60% shooting.

“I think my success so far has just come from read and react,” Okonkwo told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “We’re looking to attack mismatches, whether it’s on someone who’s smaller than us or bigger than us in different situations, and just playing off of that. It takes pressure off Paige and opens things up for everybody.”

Her impact has extended beyond scoring. Teammates and coaches praised her vocal presence in practice and ability to stretch defenses with her shooting and drives.

“She’s been a spark the second she steps on the court,” Myisha Hines-Allen said after Sunday’s game.

Grace Berger on Matching Connecticut’s Physicality

Grace Berger stressed that Dallas must be prepared for Connecticut’s trademark intensity.

“They’ve gotten hot as of late,” Berger told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “So, they’re just playing really hard, like they have nothing to lose. We’re in a similar position, so we just don’t want to be outworked, out-physicaled, out-energied, any of that. Just trying to match their energy from the jump I think is the biggest thing for us tonight.”

She added that Connecticut’s defensive pressure requires discipline from Dallas’ backcourt. “They turn people over at a high rate. So just being extra locked in on setting up our cuts, getting open for our teammates, having good passes, and then just taking care of the ball.”

Serena Sundell’s Arrival

With Quinerly out for the year, Dallas signed Serena Sundell to a hardship contract. The Kansas State product holds the school’s all-time assists record and recently played for Team USA in the 3×3 Women’s Nations League.

“I’m super excited for the opportunity,” Sundell told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “The W is crazy. I can come in and be a gap filler, and I’m just trying to be as receptive as I can. This group has been great so far — even in the first practice I felt like the connection was there.”

Head coach Chris Koclanes said Sundell’s size (6-foot-2) and versatility will give Dallas another option in the backcourt.

Countering Defenses on Paige Bueckers

Bueckers, who scored a WNBA rookie record 44 points last week in Los Angeles, has been the focal point of defensive game plans. Golden State held her to nine points on Sunday, ending her streak of 30 consecutive double-digit games.

“We could definitely do a better job making defenses pay as they get aggressive at the point of attack with Paige,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “We need to find more scores behind the ball. We’ll continue to focus on what spacing we like, what actions we like, and how we can keep finding ways to help Paige get into space.”

Teammates echoed that message. “That’s the next progression of our team,” Hines-Allen said. “We know Paige demands a lot of attention … so it’s on everyone else to step up and be confident.”

Luisa Geiselsöder on Connecticut’s Depth

Luisa Geiselsöder highlighted Tina Charles’ recent dominance and Connecticut’s balanced attack.

“Disrupt her, push her to the points that she doesn’t really like,” Geiselsöder told DallasHoopsJournal.com of Charles. “She’s playing really well right now, she’s carrying the team. But they have Leïla Lako, River, Mare, Harley — they just have so many options. They’re all playing really well together, and it’s going to take a full team defensive effort to stop that.”

She added that communication will be critical: “Especially for the players that just came in, it’s important. But honestly, the whole team has to step up our communication.”

What’s at Stake

Dallas seeks its first three-game season sweep of Connecticut since 2009. The Wings also aim to avoid a third straight loss as they continue navigating one of the league’s most injury-riddled seasons.

With Bueckers’ status uncertain and key contributors sidelined, contributions from Okonkwo, Siegrist, and Sundell could prove decisive against a Sun team eager to snap a two-game skid.
