Blockbuster Ja Morant Trade Proposal Sends Memphis Grizzlies Star To Phoenix Suns

DHJ Quick Take

  • The Core Exchange: Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley proposes a blockbuster deal where the Phoenix Suns acquire All-Star guard Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies.
  • The Suns’ Package: In exchange for Morant, Phoenix would send a package to Memphis consisting of Jalen Green, Khaman Maluach and a 2027 first-round draft pick (sourced from either Cleveland, Minnesota or Utah).
  • The Strategy: The trade aims to provide Phoenix with a dynamic, long-term cornerstone at point guard, while allowing Memphis to reset with high-upside young talent and draft capital.

A blockbuster offseason NBA trade proposal sending Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Phoenix Suns has been created by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report.

Buckley proposed that the Suns trade Jalen Green, Khaman Maluach and a 2027 first-round pick (via CLE, MIN or UTA) to the Grizzlies for Morant this summer.

Morant will make $42.1 million next season and $44 million in the 2027-28 season, the final year of his contract. The Grizzlies intend to trade Morant this offseason, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic. Memphis traded big man Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz this season, so the franchise is now in deep rebuild mode.

This trade proposal pairs Morant with Suns All-Star Devin Booker and forward Dillon Brooks, who played with Ja in Memphis.

Morant appeared in only 20 games this season for the Grizzlies because of injuries. He averaged 19.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists per contest while shooting 41.0% from the field, 23.5% from beyond the arc and 89.7% from the free-throw line.

The 2019-20 Rookie of the Year, Morant has led the Grizzlies to the second round of the playoffs just once. That was back in 2022 with Brooks and Jackson Jr.

Morant, 26, has career averages of 22.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. He was the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Murray State. The guard has been suspended by the league twice for showing a gun on IG Live.

Memphis entertained offers to trade Morant at this year’s trade deadline. People who cover the NBA believe the Grizzlies will trade Morant this offseason.

The Suns, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves have been linked to Morant in the past. It will be intriguing to see where Morant, who doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, is playing next season. The South Carolina native needs a change of scenery to jump-start his NBA career.
