Kyrie Irving Now Questionable, Luka Dončić Injury Update for Mavericks Before Jazz Matchup

Dallas Mavericks release injury report ahead of Thursday’s game vs. Jazz. Kyrie Irving is questionable, and Luka Dončić’s injury status is updated to a right knee contusion.

SALT LAKE CITY — The team released a new injury report after the Dallas Mavericks conducted a morning shootaround at Delta Center before Thursday night’s matchup against the Utah Jazz. There are a few notable adjustments to be aware of.

Luka Dončić remains on the injury report, listed as probable to play, but his injury designation has been changed from a left groin strain to a right knee contusion. He participated in the Mavericks’ shootaround and got up shots afterward.

Kyrie Irving, who wasn’t previously on the injury report, is now considered questionable to play with a right shoulder strain. He has not missed a game yet this season, averaging 25.2 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.6 rebounds through 11 performances.

Irving was not wearing typical on-court gear from someone who participated in a shootaround. However, the best indication of his potential participation in a game tends to be if he goes through a pre-game workout.

P.J. Washington (right knee sprain) was on the court getting shots up at shootaround and did go through 3-on-3 at Monday’s practice and 2-on-2 after Tuesday’s shootaround at Chase Center. He is progressing, but it remains to be seen if he’ll play since he’s listed as doubtful.

Danté Exum (right wrist surgery) remains sidelined but has been doing workouts and getting in reps with his left hand. There still isn’t a clear timetable for his return. Meanwhile, Jazian Gortman is on a G League assignment, ruling him out.

The Mavericks are the only game on the Thursday slate after the first wave of NBA Cup matchups played out this week. After a third consecutive single-possession defeat, Dallas is eager to end its losing streak and return to .500 at 6-6.
