Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić will be suspended one game after picking up his 16th technical foul of the season on Friday (3/27) against the Brooklyn Nets.
Dončić will not play against the Washington Wizards on Monday (3/30). The future Hall of Famer and Nets forward Ziaire Williams were assessed double techs with 5:12 remaining in the third quarter after jostling with each other following an offensive foul called on Dončić, who is not happy about his 16th tech.
“[Williams] was yelling in my face three times,” Dončić said, via ESPN. “I just wanted to get out of there. It’s a double tech, of course. What can I say? I didn’t even talk. I just wanted to get out of there. And they said I pushed, my push was ‘exaggerated,’ which [it] was obviously not. And I don’t know what else to tell you.”
Dončić put up 41 points, eight rebounds and three assists against the Nets while shooting 15-of-25 from the field, 5-of-10 from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. The All-Star leads the NBA in points and points per game.
In his first full season with the Lakers, Dončić is putting up MVP numbers. He’s averaging 33.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game and shooting 47.6% overall, 36.6% from 3 and 77.6% from the foul line.
The Lakers beat the Nets to improve to 48-26. They are in third place in the Western Conference standings.
