‘There Are Some Whispers’ LeBron James Wants to Play With Bryce James in NBA Too

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James made NBA history last season by playing with his son, Bronny James.

LeBron became the first father in basketball history to play with or against his son.

The leading scorer in NBA history, LeBron has one year left on his contract with the Lakers. The basketball icon becomes an unrestricted free agent next offseason for the first time since 2018.

While some pundits and fans believe LeBron could retire after the 2025-26 season, one NBA executive told Lakers Daily that he’s heard there are some whispers LBJ wants to play with his second son, Bryce James, next.

“I think LeBron plays one or two more seasons unless the Lakers win it all next year,” the NBA executive said. “Bryce will be eligible for the 2026 draft. There are some whispers that LeBron wants to play with him too.

“We’ll see what happens, but I just can’t see LeBron retiring after next season. He’s still too good of a player to just walk away. Unless there’s a huge drop-off in his production or the Lakers win the championship, I think LeBron is playing in 2026-27.”

Bryce is a freshman at Arizona. He can declare for the 2026 NBA Draft.

It will be fascinating to see if LeBron retires after next season or chooses to play in 2026-27. The Akron native averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks for the Lakers last season in 70 games. He finished sixth in MVP voting and made the All-NBA Second Team.

LeBron joined the Lakers in 2018. He led the franchise to the 2020 championship against the Miami Heat at the Walt Disney World bubble.

A four-time champion, LeBron has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Heat and Lakers. He enters next season with career averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks. The four-time Finals MVP is the only player in NBA history to rank top five all-time in points and assists.
