‘She Was A No-Go Today’: Odyssey Sims Held Out Of Dallas Wings Practice With Ankle Injury

DHJ Quick Take: Odyssey Sims Held Out Of Practice As Wings Get Other Injured Players Back

Odyssey Sims did not practice Sunday and was a “no-go” as the Dallas Wings continue to evaluate her left ankle injury, while Awak Kuier, Li Yueru, and Aziaha James returned as full participants ahead of Tuesday’s game at Minnesota.

  • What’s the latest on Odyssey Sims? She used a scooter at Sunday’s practice, did some balancing work on the side, and did not participate as the team continues to evaluate her.
  • Who returned? Awak Kuier, Li Yueru, and Aziaha James were full participants, and JJ Quinerly practiced and will be available.
  • What’s next? Dallas visits the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. CT.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Wings guard Odyssey Sims did not participate in Sunday’s practice as the team continues to evaluate her left ankle injury, head coach Jose Fernandez said.

Sims suffered the injury in the second quarter of Friday’s 104-96 road win over the Los Angeles Sparks. She was taken off the court in a wheelchair and ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Odyssey Sims Continues To Be Evaluated

Sims used a scooter at Sunday’s practice and did some balancing work on the side with the training staff. It remains to be seen what a timeline for a return to competition will be.

“We’ll continue to evaluate where Odyssey is at, but as you could see, she was a no-go today,” Fernandez said.

Sims has started seven of Dallas’s 10 games this season, averaging 6.0 points and 2.7 assists in 17.0 minutes as a regular ball-handler in the backcourt rotation.

Awak Kuier, Li Yueru And Aziaha James Return

The Wings did get other injured players back. Awak Kuier, Li Yueru, and Aziaha James were full participants in Sunday’s practice. James had exited Friday’s game with a fourth-quarter leg injury, while Kuier (right wrist) and Yueru (left ankle) had been sidelined for the Sparks game.

“Awak, Li, and [Aziaha] were full participants today in practice,” Fernandez said.

Kuier practiced without the brace she wore on her right wrist in Los Angeles, though she received treatment with a trainer after the team went through its offensive sets.

Guard JJ Quinerly, who has been out of the rotation recently, also practiced and will be available, Fernandez said.

The updates come as Dallas, 7-3 and winners of four straight, opens a stretch of five games in nine days. The Wings visit the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. CT.
