NBA superstar Luka Dončić will travel to Los Angeles this weekend for a Jordan Brand Tour and sign an extension with the Lakers, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Dončić can officially sign an extension with the Lakers on August 2. He will have a public appearance in Los Angeles on August 3.

“It is widely expected that Dončić will meet with Rob Pelinka and the Lakers’ brass upon his return to Los Angeles and officially sign a massive contract extension, league sources told ClutchPoints,” Siegel wrote.

The Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last season in a blockbuster deal involving Anthony Davis and Max Christie. Dončić, who wanted to spend his entire NBA career with the Mavericks, has said a few times since the trade that he wants to retire with the Lakers.

A five-time All-Star, Dončić averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists with Los Angeles last season and 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists in the 2025 playoffs, where the Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round in five games.

Dončić can sign a four-year, $229 million extension or agree to a two-year extension with the Lakers to get him to 10 years of service once the offseason of 2028 rolls around. Dončić can then sign a five-year max deal at 35% of the salary cap to maximize his earnings.

A future Hall of Famer, Dončić has been busy this offseason. He has been losing weight and helping the Lakers. The 26-year-old recruited Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles.

Dončić is on a gluten-free, low-sugar diet that includes at least 250 grams of protein and one almond milk–fueled shake a day, according to Men’s Health. Don’t be surprised if Dončić wins the NBA MVP Award next season. He appears to be a man on a mission.
