Maddy Siegrist Has Big Goals After Dallas Wings Pick Up Fourth-Year Option

The Dallas Wings announced Monday that they have exercised the fourth-year rookie contract option for forward Maddy Siegrist, solidifying her role in the team’s long-term plans after a breakout sophomore season.
Siegrist averaged career-highs with 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting an efficient 50.5 percent from the field across 27 games in 2024. Her progress was interrupted by an injury that cost her 13 games, but the former Villanova standout still showcased the versatility and offensive polish that made her a standout collegiate scorer.
“We are excited about exercising Maddy’s fourth-year contract option,” said Wings Executive VP and GM Curt Miller. “She is a big piece of the Wings’ future, has worked hard at her game, and is poised to have an impressive year. Her versatility to play multiple positions gives our team valuable flexibility within our roster.”
Head coach Chris Koclanes praised Siegrist’s full impact on and off the court, highlighting her as a culture-setter for the new era of Wings basketball.
“Maddy, in a lot of ways, embodies what we’re trying to cultivate here as an organization and as a new staff — the gratitude, the appreciation, and the commitment to doing what it takes to be a pro and handle your business the right way, on and off the floor,” Koclanes said. “On the court, she competes like crazy. She doesn’t take plays off, does all the dirty work, and is willing to do whatever’s needed. Off the court, she’s the first to serve her community, and she’s the best teammate. She’s everything you want in a player within your organization.”
Siegrist responded to the news with appreciation.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s super exciting,” she said. “I was hoping they were gonna do it, but you never know for sure. It’s a great organization, and I’ve been able to grow a lot as a player here. I just want to continue to be the best I can this year—and job security’s always great.”
Maddy Siegrist on the Rise with Versatility and Confidence
Siegrist has shown signs of expanding her game throughout training camp. A primary offseason emphasis was three-point shooting, and time spent in Athletes Unlimited helped round out her skill set.
“My biggest focus was becoming more versatile,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “I worked a lot on three-point shooting—being able to take more, make more, and get it off quicker. Athletes Unlimited was great for me because I got to play against so many different players and at different positions. I did a little bit of everything, and winning gave me a lot of confidence.”
She said that experience has helped, especially when sliding into small-ball lineups.
“In AU, I played one through five, so I got experience at everything,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “It gave me a lot of different looks and experience. And it helped me understand where to be defensively too.”
That defensive growth comes at a critical time for the Wings, who struggled on that end last season. With an overhauled roster, Siegrist believes the team is trending upward, partly thanks to new additions.
“We’ve brought in a lot of high-level defenders. DiJonai is probably one of the best defenders in the league, and having someone like that in your ear—and in everyone’s ear—is huge,” Siegrist said. “That’ll be big for us all year.”
Chemistry with Paige Bueckers Taking Shape
As Paige Bueckers adjusts to the WNBA game, Siegrist has already benefited from the rookie point guard’s playmaking instincts.
“Just even based on today—I got a lot of open shots,” Siegrist said. “She found me on cuts, on open threes. It’s exciting to play with a point guard like that, and a player like that in general.”
Veteran Tyasha Harris has also been instrumental in Siegrist’s continued development.
“She’s obviously a vet guard, so her spacing, her communication—telling you where to go—is really helpful,” Siegrist said. “Defensively, she’s active, gets her hands on a lot. Just having more leadership out there makes a big difference.”
Buying Into Chris Koclanes’ Vision
Siegrist has embraced the team’s new direction under Koclanes, praising his approach on both ends.
“I really love the offense. I love the defensive principles too, but the flow of the offense stands out for sure,” she said. “I like to move, cut, and get out and run—and those are all things he emphasizes too.”
The Wings are still early in the training camp process, but Siegrist sees signs of cohesion forming.
“It’s still early—we’ve only had like seven days of practice so far—so we’re still getting used to playing with each other,” she said. “It’s been fun. I think we’ve got to take care of the live-ball turnovers. We saw a decrease in that today, and the big emphasis was getting more shots on goal.”
Dallas Wings Eyeing the Playoffs and Beyond
With her contract option secured and a strong developmental arc in place, Maddy Siegrist is now setting her sights on bigger goals.
“Obviously, I want to win—go to the playoffs, win a series, win two series, and ultimately win the whole thing,” she said. “Just continuing to do whatever it takes and help the franchise any way I can.”
And when asked if she had a message for fans after the contract news?
“I guess I’m back! I mean, go Wings, right?”
