Dallas Wings’ Maddy Siegrist Wears Knee Brace with No Update on Injury

Maddy Siegrist’s status remains unclear after the Dallas Wings forward was ruled out shortly before Friday’s 88-84 loss to the Las Vegas Aces with a right knee injury.

Siegrist did not participate in Sunday’s practice at College Park Center and was seen watching from the sideline with a large brace on her right leg. The team mentioned that no official update is available yet following Sunday’s session.

She fully practiced on Thursday in Las Vegas and took part in Friday morning’s shootaround. She stayed afterward to get extra shots up, but was wearing a black sleeve on her right leg during both sessions. The Wings downgraded her to out following the shootaround, and she did not dress for the game. Her long-term outlook remains uncertain.

Before the injury, Siegrist had appeared in all 11 games for Dallas this season, averaging 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 24.0 minutes per game. She played 15 minutes against the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday without any visible brace or sleeve, contributing three points and three rebounds.

A sports performance expert spoke to DallasHoopsJournal.com, stating that the use of such a brace typically indicates a more serious injury, often involving structural instability or the need to reduce stress on the joint, suggesting a significant diagnosis could be forthcoming.

“Generally, when someone’s wearing that, they’re really guarding or unloading the area,” the sports performance expert told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

Now facing further roster challenges, Dallas is without both Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder, who have departed to compete in FIBA Women’s EuroBasket for their respective national teams. McCowan is playing for Turkey, while Geiselsöder, who had just recorded a career-high 13 points on perfect 6-of-6 shooting against Las Vegas, joins Germany’s roster.

With Tyasha Harris sidelined for the season after knee surgery, the Wings are again limited on available players and are a team to monitor for a potential hardship exemption. On Friday, Dallas led the Aces by 11 with under four minutes to play before surrendering a 17-2 run to close the game.

Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 26 points and eight assists in the loss, continuing her All-Star caliber campaign. She did not practice on Sunday due to illness.

The Wings (1-11) return home to face the Golden State Valkyries on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT at College Park Center.
