Mavericks' Luka Dončić Out With Right Wrist Sprain, Will Miss At Least One Week

Luka Dončić sidelined with a right wrist sprain. Mavericks to re-evaluate in one week as they face a tough road trip against Denver, Miami, and Atlanta.

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks will be without their superstar Luka Dončić for at least the next week after he sustained a right wrist injury, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania on Thursday morning. While Charania initially reported a strain, the Mavs’ announcement noted it was a sprain.

The Mavericks plan to re-evaluate his status after one week, adding uncertainty to his availability for upcoming games. He underwent an MRI to confirm the status.

Dončić, who missed his first game of the season last Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a right knee contusion, returned to action Tuesday night and recorded 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a 132-91 win over the New Orleans Pelicans in NBA Cup play.

However, Dončić revealed that he experienced discomfort in his wrist during that game. “I don’t know, honestly,” Dončić said. “I started feeling it in the first quarter, but then it just got worse, but nothing serious.”

The wrist strain prevented Dončić from participating in Wednesday’s practice, and he is expected to miss the Mavericks’ three-game road trip. Dallas faces the Denver Nuggets on Friday night in another NBA Cup matchup before traveling to Miami on Sunday and Atlanta on Monday for back-to-back games.

A re-evaluation next Wednesday coincides with the team’s return home to host the New York Knicks at American Airlines Center.

Through 14 games this season, Dončić has been a cornerstone for the Mavericks, averaging 28.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game. His absence leaves Dallas navigating a challenging stretch without its offensive engine.

The Mavericks’ depth will be tested during this road trip as they continue competing in NBA Cup action and against competitive Eastern Conference opponents.
