Mavericks Reveal Injury Updates on Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Dereck Lively II, and Naji Marshall Against Grizzlies

The Dallas Mavericks provide key injury updates on Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Dereck Lively II, and Naji Marshall before their game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

DALLAS — As the Dallas Mavericks prepare to host the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night, injuries remain a significant storyline. Luka Dončić returned in their 137-131 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers and dropped 36 points, 7 rebounds, and 13 assists. Dallas continues grappling with several key players’ availability but has stayed afloat with a 13-8 record.

“It’s not 100 percent, but it’s good enough to play,” Dončić said of his wrist after the game. “I was just happy to be back and help the team get the win.”

Latest on Injuries Before Facing Grizzlies

The content below was originally paywalled.

Kyrie Irving will return to the lineup against the Grizzlies after sitting out on the second night of a back-to-back due to right shoulder soreness. He was instrumental in guiding the Mavericks during Dončić’s absence, posting a 4-1 record during the five games the Slovenian superstar missed with his right wrist injury. He averaged 26.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.6 assists during that stretch.

Klay Thompson, who has been sidelined for the last three games due to left foot plantar fasciitis, is listed as questionable. His status will likely be determined closer to game time. Dealing with a right knee hyperextension, Dereck Lively II is also questionable after missing one game.

Naji Marshall will miss his second consecutive game due to illness, while Danté Exum continues his recovery from right wrist surgery and has an unclear return timetable. Two-way player Brandon Williams is unavailable as he remains with the Mavericks’ G League affiliate.

Depth Tested

The Mavericks have shown resilience despite the injuries, with several players stepping up to fill the void. Quentin Grimes has been a revelation, delivering a season-high 28 points against Portland while continuing to make key contributions on both ends of the floor. Spencer Dinwiddie and P.J. Washington have also provided steady scoring during this shorthanded stretch, while Dinwiddie’s playmaking and Washington’s defense and rebounding have stood out.

Jason Kidd praised his team’s adaptability, emphasizing the importance of contributions from the entire roster.

“These moments provide opportunities for others to shine,” Kidd said. “The guys have done a great job stepping up and embracing their roles.”

Looking Ahead

Tipoff at the American Airlines Center is set for 7:30 p.m. CST, and the Mavericks will be looking to secure another statement win despite their injury challenges. On a four-game winning streak, they are eager to continue their momentum against a Grizzlies team battling to climb the Western Conference standings.
