An NBA trade idea sending Bam Adebayo from the Miami Heat to the Charlotte Hornets has been created.

NBA writer Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Heat and Hornets:

Charlotte Hornets Acquire: Bam Adebayo

Miami Heat Acquire: Miles Bridges, Kon Knueppel, 2027 first-round pick (own), 2027 first-round pick (via DAL; top-two protected), 2028 first-round pick (top-four protected), 2029 first-round swap, 2030 first-round swap

This blockbuster NBA trade idea would pair Adebayo with Hornets All-Star LaMelo Ball and talented forward Brandon Miller.

A three-time All-Star, Adebayo is one of the best two-way players in the NBA. The 28-year-old Kentucky product averaged 18.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks for the Heat last season while shooting 48.5% from the field, 35.7% from beyond the arc and 76.5% from the free-throw line.

The Hornets haven’t made the playoffs since 2016. They would become a contender in the Eastern Conference with Adebayo in the fold next to Ball and Miller.

“Charlotte has been deliberate in its rebuild, so this kind of swing would be way out of character,” Hughes wrote. “Still, Ball is entering his sixth NBA season, as fellow theoretical building block, Miller, enters his third. At some point, the Hornets need to see what their top young talent can do in a more competitive setting. Adebayo, who is just 28 years old, fits the timeline and elevates the product to new heights on both ends.”

Adebayo enters this season with career averages of 15.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks. He’s made five All-Defensive teams. The 14th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft will make $37.1 million this season.

The Heat lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in four games, while the Hornets won only 19 games last season.
