NBA Trade Idea Sends Jrue Holiday From Portland Trail Blazers To Houston Rockets

An NBA trade idea sending Jrue Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Houston Rockets has been created.

NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Trail Blazers and Rockets:

Houston Rockets get: Jrue Holiday

Portland Trail Blazers get: Jabari Smith Jr. and Dorian Finney-Smith

This NBA trade idea can’t happen now since the 2026 trade deadline has passed.

However, it can take place in the offseason.

Holiday is better suited to play for a contender at this stage of his career. The UCLA product turns 36 this summer and the Trail Blazers are nowhere close to competing.

The Rockets are a championship contender with Kevin Durant and Alperen Şengün leading the way. Fred VanVleet will be back next season since he will have fully recovered from his ACL tear, but it’s unknown how productive he will be, so Houston could benefit from trading for Holiday, a two-time NBA champion who is one of the top two-way players in the league.

Holiday and Durant have won two gold medals together for Team USA. Durant knows what Holiday brings to the table and would presumably be happy to play with the guard.

For the Trail Blazers this season, Holiday is averaging 16.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 45.7% from the field, 36.5% from beyond the arc and 83.1% from the free-throw line. The California native will make $34.8 million next season. He has a player option worth $37.2 million for the 2027-28 season.

Holiday has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics and Trail Blazers. He holds career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.

If the Rockets fall short in the 2026 playoffs, their front office could make some changes to the roster in the offseason. After all, Durant is 37 and turns 38 in September. Houston is in win-now mode and can’t be patient.
