Video Emerges of Nico Harrison Signing D’Angelo Russell to Dallas Mavericks Deal
Kyrie Irving will miss a chunk of the 2025-26 NBA season recovering from his left ACL tear, which is why the Dallas Mavericks signed D’Angelo Russell to a two-year, $11.7 million deal this offseason.
Russell played with Mavericks big man Anthony Davis on the Los Angeles Lakers, who went 72-43 in the regular season when the two All-Stars were in the lineup.
Russell, who played for the Lakers and Brooklyn Nets last season, has been traded by every team he’s suited up for.
However, Dallas general manager Nico Harrison is excited to have the lefty on the Mavericks.
D’Angelo Russell has played for the Lakers (twice), Nets (twice), Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves. He was the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Ohio State product has career averages of 17.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 42.7% from the field, 36.5% from beyond the arc and 79.6% from the free-throw line.
In 58 games with the Lakers and Nets last season, Russell averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists. The 29-year-old shot 39.0% overall, 31.4% from 3 and 83.4% from the foul line.
Former Dallas guard and current MavsTV analyst Devin Harris is a fan of Harrison signing Russell, who has played in 32 postseason games in his career.
“An incredible shooter, great shot-maker,” Harris said at the Mavs Academy Hoop Camp at Prestonwood. “He’s somebody that can do it off the dribble or spot up. You look at how they’re constructing the team, obviously they decided to go big, but shooting is at a premium to be able to space the floor to allow these guys to operate.
“And he fills the void until Kai Irving) comes back. To have a dynamic guard to fill that void but also who can play with Kai when he gets back and they can fit together is big.”
Russell will wear No. 5 with the Mavericks.
