Dallas Wings 5-on-5 Day 6 Clips: Paige Bueckers And Azzi Fudd Play Together, Bigs Compete, Takeaways

DHJ Quick Take: Friday Observations

  • The Bueckers-Fudd Synergy: The most significant takeaway from the Day 6 clips is seeing Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd share the floor in the same 5-on-5 unit. Their “read-and-react” chemistry was on full display during a pick-and-roll sequence where Bueckers found Fudd for a mid-range pull-up after reading a defensive tag. This duo’s gravity is already creating the high-quality looks Jose Fernandez prioritized in his offseason system pitch.
  • Li Yueru’s Interior Impact: While the Wings value her floor-spacing potential, the Day 6 clips highlighted Li Yueru‘s flashes as a “paint presence.” Her ability to finish through contact for an and-one demonstrates the “inside-out” balance Fernandez is demanding to ignite the transition game.
  • Standout Players: Maddy Siegrist and Aziaha James continue to flash impressive off-ball movement. Siegrist’s ability to find layups off cuts and James’ confidence in creating separation against Bueckers for a step-back three show a roster that is already internalizing the “never a stagnant moment” offensive philosophy.
  • Veteran Continuity: Alysha Clark served as the session’s “connector,” opening the 5-on-5 run with a floater and facilitating the pindown actions that freed Fudd for open looks. Her presence allows the Wings to test complex European-style misdirection before Arike Ogunbowale and Jessica Shepard arrive on Monday.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Wings wrapped their fifth practice of training camp Friday at College Park Center, with Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd sharing the floor in the same 5-on-5 unit during the open portion of practice for the first time this week.

A compilation of standout clips from Friday’s practice is below.

Bueckers and Fudd showed early chemistry running pick-and-roll together, with Bueckers reading the low defender tagging the roller and making a live-dribble pass to Fudd in the corner. Odyssey Sims aggressively closed out to deter the corner three, and Fudd countered with a shot fake into a made mid-range pull-up. The pair connected again on a transition push, with Alysha Clark waiting for Bueckers to come off a pindown set by Fudd out of the corner. The defenders switched, the action flowed into a pick-and-roll with Zee Spearman, and Aziaha James tagging Spearman on the roll left Fudd wide open for a clean three.

Bueckers also created on her own. She relocated across the perimeter to get the ball out of the post, used a shot fake to force a fly-by on the catch, and pulled up for a clean mid-range jumper. On a separate possession, she worked into a side pick-and-roll and hit a tightly contested mid-range step-back.

Li Yueru worked through a few pivots in the post and finished through contact for an and-one. Spearman got a face-up jumper to fall late in the 5-on-5 run despite a contest from Yueru. Maddy Siegrist continued to find ways to free herself with off-ball movement, producing another layup off a cut.

James got a step-back 3-pointer to fall after creating separation against Bueckers, and Grace Berger rose into a mid-range pull-up with the shot clock winding down. Clark opened the 5-on-5 session with a floater in the lane.

The Wings continue training camp with Alanna Smith and Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu expected back Saturday. The preseason tips off for Dallas on April 10 on the road against the Indiana Fever.
