‘She Should Be Fine’: Dallas Wings Reveal Paige Bueckers Injury Status for New York Liberty Rematch

Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers did not practice Thursday and is listed as questionable for Friday night’s home game against the New York Liberty due to a back injury.
Bueckers sustained what she described as a “pulled muscle” during the Wings’ 85-76 loss in New York on Tuesday, briefly leaving the game in the third quarter before returning for the final period.
“She should be fine for tomorrow,” Wings head coach Chris Koclanes said, noting her absence from Thursday’s session was for rest and that her status remains day to day.
Injury Happened Mid-Game, But Didn’t Sideline Paige Bueckers for Long
Bueckers said the injury occurred without contact during a routine play.
“I think it was in the third quarter,” she said Tuesday. “I was just dribbling the ball up and I felt a sort of tightness come along. It was pretty random.”
The rookie guard underwent treatment on the stationary bike and in the locker room before re-entering the game, finishing with 21 points, eight rebounds, and four assists — her fourth consecutive 20-point performance.
“I’m hoping it won’t take me out,” Bueckers said after the game. “I’ll get some treatment, get some rest, take some medicine. So I’m hoping it doesn’t take me out.”
Dallas Wings Eye Adjustments for Series-Deciding Game
Friday’s contest at College Park Center marks the third and final meeting between the Wings (8-22) and Liberty (19-10) this season, with the series tied 1-1. Dallas won the first matchup 92-82 on July 30 before New York responded with Tuesday’s win at Barclays Center.
Koclanes said the focus has been on “subtle adjustments” while building chemistry with a young roster that recently added forward Diamond Miller via trade.
Forward Myisha Hines-Allen, who missed the previous game with an ankle injury, returned to practice Thursday and is probable to play Friday.
The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. CT.
