Paige Bueckers Returns Home

Wednesday will be a special night for Paige Bueckers, who plays her first WNBA game in her home state of Minnesota. A native of Edina and a Hopkins High School legend, Bueckers has already emerged as the centerpiece of the Wings’ offense just two games into her rookie campaign.

“I have a lot of family — my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents — and then a lot of my former teammates from Hopkins and my AAU teams coming out to support,” Bueckers said. “Just to have them here means everything to me, just ’cause they’ve been a huge part of my story in getting here. So having their support is gonna be amazing.”

Bueckers, who grew up idolizing Lynx legends like Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen, is averaging 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in her first two professional games. She posted 19 points, eight assists, and five rebounds in Monday’s loss to Seattle.

Dallas Wings Aim to Respond After Opening Losses

Dallas enters Wednesday’s game searching for its first win of the season. After a competitive first half in the season opener against the Lynx, the Wings struggled to contain Napheesa Collier and Courtney Williams, who combined for 49 points and dominated the third quarter.

Bueckers acknowledged that Dallas will need sharper execution defensively and more transition opportunities to compete in the rematch.

” I think our defense on the point of attack, and Courtney Williams and Phee’s ability to really get whatever they wanted out of the pick and roll — so I think we need to be better at the point of attack and trying to congest the paint and not let so many easy touches, paint touches in there where they get out and spray and make the extra pass and get great movement on offense,” Bueckers told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

“And then just attacking offensively, I know just trying to get more in transition, trying to get more paint touches, trying to get more changing sides of the floor,” Bueckers continued. “But I think Phee and Courtney really killed us in the first game, so trying to clean it up on that end.”

Despite the 0–2 record, the Wings have shown flashes of progress as the team works to build chemistry under new head coach Chris Koclanes. The message has been patience, given it’s a process to come together as an essentially new team that returns only three players from last season, with plenty of rookies.

Minnesota Lynx Prepare to “Punch First” in Home Opener

Wednesday marks their 2025 home opener for the Lynx, and they’re looking to extend their unbeaten start. Veteran forward Bridget Carleton emphasized the team’s focus on being the aggressor out of the gate.

“We’re excited to play the same team again. Obviously, now we’ve got a feel for who they are. Obviously, it’s a new team kind of being put together,” Carleton said. “We want to be able to come out like we did in the second half against L.A. and not just, you know, feeling the game. We want to punch first. We want to be the aggressor. We want to make things challenging and not let some of their really good players get hot, get comfortable. We want to avoid that. ’Cause you know, good players in this league, it’s hard to put out that fire once it’s started.”

Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve acknowledged Dallas’ talent and expects a more cohesive and motivated opponent in the rematch.

“They’ve got really good players that need to play together,” Reeve said. “I think that’s the thing. And the more that they keep at it, and the players are playing together, and Chris is figuring out rotations and identity and that sort of thing. They’re all good players. We had one of them here in Myisha. And I think they’re trying to do what they’re asked to do. I think it’s a good team.

“And I think our league is different now with 44 games versus when we had 34, or even 32,” Reeve explained further. “When you have a tough start, it’s hard to recover from. Now that we get more games, and we’re not quite like baseball, where they play, what are they up to, 400 games now, you have a little bit more of a runway to manage tough times. “So I think players and teams that are new just need to stick with it. And they’ve got good players.”
