Dallas Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont Wants To Err On The Side Of Caution Regarding Anthony Davis’ Return From Injury

Dallas Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont wants to err on the side of caution regarding Anthony Davis‘ return from injury, according to NBA insider Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
Davis is currently out with a left calf strain.
“Sources told ESPN that Davis had targeted Saturday night’s road game against the Washington Wizards to return, but members of the Mavs’ medical staff pushed back due to fear that he could aggravate the injury,” MacMahon wrote. “A similar situation unfolded in Davis’ debut with the Mavs last February, when he returned from an abdominal injury he suffered before the trade and sustained a related adductor strain that sidelined him for the next six weeks.
“Dumont was among the people involved in the dialogue regarding Davis’ return in recent days, sources said, stating his preference to err on the side of caution.”
Davis reported to training camp at 268 pounds, according to the roster the Mavericks released in September. That was 15 pounds heavier than what he was listed at the previous season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
A future Hall of Famer, Davis has appeared in just 14 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest this season.
Davis is 32 years old. He is under contract for $54.1 million this season and $58.5 million for the 2026–27 season. The Chicago native has a player option for the 2027–28 season worth $62.8 million.
Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks. He has made 10 All-Star teams, five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams.
Now that Nico Harrison is gone, some people around the NBA believe Dallas could look to trade Davis this season. Davis doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. His agent is Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group.
