Some members of the Sacramento Kings are worried about NBA legend Russell Westbrook, according to Ahn Fire Digital.
The Kings signed Westbrook to a one-year, $3.6 million contract. The deal is non-guaranteed, so Sacramento can waive the veteran guard at any point this season and not be affected financially.
“Some members of the Sacramento Kings are worried about Russell Westbrook’s poor shooting, decision-making in critical moments and habit of turning the ball over too many times, the source said. … Some members of the Kings are also worried about how Westbrook will react if he doesn’t finish games in the fourth quarter. Westbrook pouted behind the scenes when he was taken out of games in crunch time with the Los Angeles Clippers and Nuggets, the source said.”
Westbrook was an unrestricted free agent all summer after declining his 2025-26 player option with the Denver Nuggets. The prevailing expectation since August was that Westbrook would end up with the Kings.
Westbrook played in 75 games for the Nuggets last season. The future Hall of Famer averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks.
The 2016-17 MVP with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook turns 37 on November 12. He has played for the Thunder, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Nuggets. The UCLA product has the most triple-doubles in NBA history (203).
A nine-time All-Star, Westbrook has career averages of 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.3 blocks in 1,237 games. He has made nine All-NBA teams during his iconic playing career.
Westbrook is expected to come off the bench for the Kings, who missed the playoffs last season. Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine recruited Westbrook to Sacramento.
The Kings face the Phoenix Suns to begin the 2025-26 regular season. Westbrook will play despite signing with the team after training camp and preseason action.
