Sophie Cunningham Reveals if Indiana Fever Star Caitlin Clark Is Close to Returning From Injury

On the latest episode of her podcast, Show Me Something, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham revealed whether two-time WNBA All-Star Caitlin Clark is close to returning from injury.
Clark has been out since July 15 due to a right groin injury. She’s only played in 13 games this season.
“Dude, I don’t know,” Cunningham said. “Everyone keeps asking. Everyone’s like, ‘You know.’ And I’m like literally she doesn’t even know. It’s just like a day-by-day legit type of thing. And so yeah she’s close, but like you also have to remember like she could be playing if it wasn’t in the WNBA by now, but like at this level with how deep and like how good people are nowadays in our league which is the best it’s ever been, like you can’t just be good. You have to be on top of your game.
“And so just trying to get her back in game shape I think is what they’re trying to do, but like again, it’s literally a day-by-day. I’m not holding out any information. I just literally don’t know.”
One of the best players in the WNBA, Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.5 blocks for the Fever this season. She missed the All-Star Game in Indiana because of her injury.
Clark won the Rookie of the Year Award last season. She was the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Iowa product has career averages of 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks with the Fever, who are 19-16 on the season.
Cunningham suffered a right knee injury against the Connecticut Sun on August 17. She will miss the rest of the season.
Cunningham was traded to the Fever in February by the Phoenix Mercury. She will finish this season with averages of 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 30 games.
