Chicago Sky star Angel Reese hasn’t played since July 29 due to a back injury and one WNBA scout thinks the two-time All-Star shouldn’t play again this season.

The Sky, who have 12 games left in the season, will miss the playoffs again this year. They are only 8-24.

“There’s no point for Angel to play again this season,” the WNBA scout told DallasHoopsJournal. “They (Chicago) should just sit her out for the rest of the season. What’s the point of her playing again? They’re not going anywhere. What if she comes back and re-aggravates her back or makes things worse? It’s too risky.”

Reese has started 23 games for the Sky this season. She’s averaging 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 44.4% from the field, 20.0% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the free-throw line. The LSU product has 17 double-doubles and one triple-double.

Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks as a rookie. The Maryland native has already established herself as one of the greatest rebounders in WNBA history.

In 57 career games with the Sky, Reese is averaging 13.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks. Chicago, though, is just 19-38 when Reese plays.

Reese signed a four-year, $324,383 contract with the Sky last year after getting drafted in April. She also agreed to a multi-year endorsement contract extension with Reebok in October 2024.

It’s unknown if Reese will play again this season. She’s currently being listed as day-to-day by the Sky.
