Denver Nuggets Have Contacted LeBron James, Interested In Adding Him

The Denver Nuggets have contacted LeBron James and are interested in adding him, according to Bennett Durando of the Denver Post.

James is an unrestricted free agent for the first time since the summer of 2018. He will not re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke and James are close friends. James and Denver superstar center Nikola Jokić also have great respect for one another.

Arguably the greatest player in NBA history, James played in 60 games this past season, his 23rd year in the NBA. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game for the Lakers, who are now building around Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and newcomer Walker Kessler.

In the 2026 playoffs against the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, James put up 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. The Lakers beat the Rockets in the first round in six games. However, James and Co. lost to the Thunder in the second round in four games. Dončić didn’t play in the playoffs because of a serious hamstring injury.

James, who has been in the NBA since 2003, is a four-time MVP, four-time champion and four-time Finals MVP. He’s the all-time leader in points, field goals, minutes and games.

Along with the Nuggets, James has been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors. The future Hall of Famer has played for the Cavaliers twice and the Heat once.

Denver won the 2023 championship against the Heat in five games. However, the Nuggets haven’t gotten past the second round of the playoffs since then despite having Jokić, one of the best players of all time.

The Timberwolves beat the Nuggets in the first round of this year’s playoffs in six games. Despite reports that Jokić is weighing whether to sign a contract extension this offseason, Denver team sources say the three-time MVP continues to signal a desire to remain with the franchise beyond his current deal, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.

It will be fascinating to see where James, 41, is playing next season. If LeBron joins the Nuggets with Jokić, Denver could easily win the championship next season.
