Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge in the early morning hours of March 5 after allegedly punching a man in the face at a Miami nightclub where she and her Unrivaled teammates had been celebrating a championship victory hours earlier, according to a complaint/arrest affidavit obtained by DallasHoopsJournal.com.
The arrest came approximately eight hours after Ogunbowale and Mist BC defeated Phantom BC 80-74 in the 2026 Unrivaled championship game at Sephora Arena in Medley, Fla. Ogunbowale scored 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting in the title game and hit the series-clinching shot in the semifinal against Breeze BC on her 29th birthday.
Ogunbowale, 29, was taken into custody at 4:22 a.m. at 29 NE 11th St. in Miami — the address of Club E11EVEN — and charged with one count of battery under Florida Statute 784.03, a first-degree misdemeanor. Police Case No. 2603050013255 and Court Case No. M26004370 is associated with the arrest.
Details from Affidavit
According to the affidavit, a Miami Police Department officer working an extra-duty detail at the location was flagged down by security staff regarding a physical altercation inside the establishment. The officer proceeded to the rear exit, where a large crowd was being escorted out by security.
Upon making contact with the victim, the officer documented the following: the victim stated he was attempting to escort Ogunbowale out of the club due to an unrelated altercation when she punched him in the face with a closed fist, causing him to fall to the ground. The victim pointed out Ogunbowale on scene, and she was taken into custody without incident.
“CCTV footage from the establishment was reviewed and confirmed the statement provided by the victim,” the affidavit states.
The affidavit also notes an indication of alcohol influence. Officers Garcia, A., and Cherrelus, R. were equipped with body-worn cameras. Arresting officer Cherrelus, R. (Court ID: 001-42547) swore and signed the affidavit, which was notarized by Cabrera, J. (Court ID: 001-41738).
Ogunbowale was released the same morning on a $1,000 cash bond. Miami-Dade County court records list her as no longer in jail. The case has been assigned to Judge Betsy Alvarez-Zane. No defense attorney was listed as of the time of publication.
WNBA Season
Ogunbowale is currently an unrestricted free agent. The Milwaukee native’s most recent contract with Dallas expired following the 2025 WNBA season, in which the Wings went 10-34. She averaged 15.5 points per game last season on 36.4% shooting from the field and 30.4% from 3-point range.
Over seven seasons with Dallas, Ogunbowale has averaged 19.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game on 39.0% shooting across 224 appearances. She is a four-time WNBA All-Star and two-time All-Star Game MVP, a 2020 scoring champion, a 2024 steals champion, a three-time All-WNBA selection, and a 2019 All-Rookie Team honoree.
The Wings said in a statement Friday that they were “aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale” and were in the process of gathering more information, adding that further comments would be provided once more details were available.
The WNBA’s 2026 regular season is scheduled to tip off on May 8, contingent on the resolution of ongoing collective bargaining negotiations between the league and the players’ association. The league set a March 10 deadline for a new CBA agreement, and the two sides remain far apart on revenue sharing.
