Sources: Atlanta Hawks Unlikely To Trade For Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis Barring Shift

It appears unlikely for the Atlanta Hawks to succeed in a midseason trade for Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis at this stage, NBA sources told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

Barring a shift in willingness to include more value in a trade package, the Hawks are not believed to be an imminent trade possibility.

Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He’s averaging 20.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 50.6% from the field, 28.6% from beyond the arc and 72.5% from the foul line in 19 starts. The 10-time All-Star has 12 double-doubles.

Sources describe Atlanta’s current posture as measured in relation to the possibility of acquiring Davis, who is eligible for a contract extension in August. The Hawks have two key assets that the front office lacks interest in parting with, including Zaccharie Risacher and the 2026 first-round pick swap that could land the New Orleans Pelicans’ selection, sources said.

Trae Young being traded this early before the Feb. 5 midseason deadline does help the financial landscape for the Hawks to make a significant midseason trade acquisition. However, acquiring a star player before the deadline would impact the financial flexibility the team could benefit from having after knowing who they will select in the 2026 NBA Draft as they continue to build around Jalen Johnson.

As NBA agents and teams use midseason trade activity to work ahead, there is motivation from Davis’ representation to land a commitment on a contract extension, sources said. As it stands, Dallas isn’t positioned to make assurances, sources said.

The Mavericks would like to see Davis play alongside Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, but it remains to be seen when Irving will play after recovering from ACL surgery.

Dallas is exploring the trade markets for Davis, Daniel GaffordKlay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell, sources said. All four players have been in trade rumors ever since Nico Harrison was fired as general manager.
