Azzi Fudd smiled when she heard the question. Speaking to reporters in Fort Worth, where the Huskies are competing in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16, Fudd was asked whether she could see herself living in the area long‑term.
“I mean, maybe,” Fudd replied.
With the WNBA Draft approaching on April 13, the anticipation has already built for what the Wings will do with the No. 1 pick. The possibility of pairing Fudd with Paige Bueckers has naturally been widely speculated. Coming off a 10–34 season, the Wings have the chance to reconstruct a backcourt that won a national championship with UConn in 2025. And the geography only sharpens the question: College Park Center — where the Wings will play most of their home games and practice during the 2026 season — is roughly 18 miles from Dickies Arena, where Fudd will take the floor this weekend.
UConn has been based in Fort Worth for its regional games, and the city has been buzzing with Huskies fans throughout the week. The Stockyards district — a former livestock hub turned tourist draw — has been a popular stop for visitors, with its bars, shops, and live‑music venues packed ahead of Friday’s games.
Fudd hasn’t minded the setting.
“Fort Worth has been good to us so far,” she said. “The weather has been really nice.”
Fudd has been one of the prospects most frequently linked to that selection. Diana Taurasi made her case on NBC Sports this week, pointing to the chemistry Fudd already has with Bueckers.
Fudd was also asked about Bueckers visiting the Huskies at practice.
“It was really nice having her back, but like old times, she didn’t actually do anything because they were playing defense,” Fudd joked. “So she just sat next to coach and did her thing the whole time. But it definitely — it was nice to get a familiar face. Definitely good vibes and lots of smiles when she walked in.”
Fudd is averaging 17.8 points and 3.0 assists while shooting 45.4% from three this season, all career highs. She scored 34 points in UConn’s 98–45 win over Syracuse in the second round, hitting eight of her 11 attempts from deep. The Huskies bring a 52‑game winning streak into Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup against fourth‑seeded North Carolina.
Their stay in Texas has given Fudd an early look at the market that could become her professional home. If her smile meant anything, she certainly didn’t seem bothered by the idea.
The draft is April 13.
