Chicago Bulls Believe Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis Can Help Them

The Chicago Bulls believe Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis can help their rim protection and defensive interior, according to NBA insider Jamal Collier of ESPN.
Davis was born and raised in Chicago. The future Hall of Famer is expected to get traded after the Mavericks fired Nico Harrison as general manager, sources told DallasHoopsJournal.
“The Chicago Bulls have had internal discussions about how to proceed, including conversations about Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis, sources told ESPN, whom they believe could help the team’s porous rim protection and defensive interior,” Collier wrote. “Davis is from Chicago, and the Bulls have three players on the roster (Ayo Dosunmu, Jevon Carter and Matas Buzelis) who grew up in the area, which is not a coincidence.
“However, team sources said the Bulls will not sacrifice any of their young core to execute such a deal until the team is closer to contention. ‘I don’t think going out and chasing X megastar is the way to proceed — at least today,’ one source told ESPN.”
The Mavericks are 6-15, while the Bulls are 9-10.
One of the best players in NBA history, Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He will make $58.5 million next season and has a player option for the 2027–28 season worth $62.8 million.
The Mavericks are expected to work with Davis’ camp as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade, sources said. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent.
Davis has appeared in just 15 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 19.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.
A Kentucky product, Davis has played in only six games this season because of a left calf injury. He’s averaging 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
The few teams interested in trading for Davis hope he loses weight, sources said. Teams believe Davis needs to lose weight so he can be the mobile threat he usually is.
A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
