Chicago Sky Star Angel Reese ‘Focused on Her Back Rehab,’ Unknown When She’ll Play Again

Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh told reporters that two-time WNBA All-Star Angel Reese is “focused on her back rehab” and remains day-to-day.
Reese hasn’t played since July 29.
Reese has started 23 games for the Sky this season. She’s averaging 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 44.4% from the floor, 20.0% from beyond the arc and 79.0% from the free-throw line. The LSU product has 17 double-doubles and one triple-double.
The Sky are just 8-22 on the season. They are in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference standings. All signs point to Chicago missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks as a rookie. The Maryland native has already established herself as one of the top rebounders in WNBA history.
In 57 career games with the Sky, Reese is averaging 13.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks. Chicago, though, is only 19-38 when Reese plays.
Reese, 23, was the first basketball player Reebok signed after the company relaunched its basketball brand.
Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky told Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic that Reese was the perfect player for them.
“Angel is a provocative disruptor,” Krinsky said. “But she doesn’t do it just for clicks or whatever. She does it because she really has this very, kind of unique, rebellious attitude. And those are the type of athletes that — athletes have something to say. Athletes are more than just athletes, away from the court. That’s the formula of what’s really worked for us in the past, so we can build these icons, and she’s definitely one of them. She fits the Shaq/AI mentality.”
Angel Reese signed a four-year, $324,383 contract with the Chicago Sky last year after getting drafted in April. She also agreed to a multi-year endorsement contract extension with Reebok in October 2024.
